After finishing veterinary school, I was excited to have more time to dedicate to voiceover. Soon, I began looking for more remote VO learning opportunities to start honing my craft. I was lucky to come across Edge Studio’s training program that provided introductory courses for VO industry beginners.
Since voice acting is equal parts talent and practice, working with Edge Studio helped me grow and allowed me to work with a private coach to produce new demos. After the demos came the auditions, and I started booking more work, building my knowledge, and looking for the perfect home studio.
But… something was missing. I knew that I would need a website and a unique, identifiable brand to go forward. That’s where Celia of Celia Siegel Management came in– her website showcased previous brands she had collaborated on, and after an initial consultation, I knew it was a perfect match. I had the voice talent role down, but I needed help with the business aspect of the work– building an image, a business plan, marketing myself, and setting goals.
Questions that get you thinking…
During the VO brand-building process, I answered many questions and prompts about my sound, my aesthetic, and my vision for my brand. Two prompts helped me the most:
- Make a list of all the roles you can see yourself as a perfect fit for– This was crucial to helping me discover who I should market my voiceover efforts towards. Which companies or brands align with the sound of my voice? Now that I know who I want to work with, I can take steps toward working with them.
- Describe yourself in 10 adjectives– The adjectives I picked have come to represent the versatility of my brand today– both professional and playful, cheerful and relatable. Choosing the adjectives that best describe me brought truth and uniqueness to my brand.
I am my brand.
My brand– Revel and Wonder VO– perfectly encapsulates what I want to convey about myself as a voiceover artist. I’m a happy, personable creative with a bright sound, but I’m also a professional. I can do children’s voices, but I can also play mature characters– versatility is my superpower. Check out more about my brand here!
